Judicial inquiry ordered in D. G. Khan killing

Lahore, September 1: Mr. Fayyaz Ahmad Zaheer, Senior Civil Judge, D. G. Khan has been appointed one-man inquiry tribunal to probe an extra-judicial killing by police officers in D. G. Khan

On receiving a complaint regarding the alleged murder of Hafiz Abdullah on 18.3.2010 by Dera Ghazi Khan police officers, HRCP had called upon the Punjab government to hold an inquiry. It was alleged that after killing Hafiz Abdullah the police officers concerned had thrown his dead body before the crowd gathered outside the Police Station which set on fire the dead body in the presence of the police officers at Mian Chowk Choti Zareen.

The terms of reference of the tribunal are: to ascertain the facts of the case; to fix the responsibility for the incident; to highlight other issues related to the incident/enquiry and furnish its recommendations. The tribunal will complete its inquiry in one month. HRCP has urged the people who know anything about this gory incident to come forward and give evidence to the tribunal.
